09:56 | Lima, May. 10.

Peru's President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski launched construction works for the installation of a 57-meter modular bridge on Las Torres Ave. in Lurigancho-Chosica district's Huachipa area.

In his speech, Mr. Kuczynski referred to the expulsion of Ecuador nationals Carlos Pareja Cordero and Carlos Benjamin Pareja Dassum, and said "the issue runs its course."

The Peruvian leader monitored the commencement of works joined by the country's Vice President and Transport Minister Martin Vizcarra.

As is known, the aforementioned area was severely affected by heavy rain and flooding during the emergency caused by Coastal El Niño, a natural phenomenon that battered Lima and northern Peru.

The bridge will include two lanes and pedestrian sidewalks in order to improve traffic flow in Huachipa, Jicamarca and Cajamarquilla, thus benefiting 300,000 inhabitants in Eastern Lima.

The activity was held early on Wednesday in the presence of residents, local authorities and the media.
