Peru President: Independence Day speech to include anti-corruption measures

13:27 | Piura (Piura region), Jul. 23.

President Martin Vizcarra on Monday reaffirmed he will propose concrete measures to fight corruption —in favor of the justice system reform— during his Independence Day address to the nation.

"These measures will be proposed on July 28 during the address to the nation," the statesman pointed out.

"We (the Executive Branch) already have clear approaches to combat corruption and, on this basis, to reform the justice administration system, which has created distrust among all Peruvians," he added.

Similarly, the Head of State will introduce a proposal to modify the National Council of the Magistracy (CNM) election system.

"We think the National Council of the Magistracy, as it is currently composed, does not guarantee a good election; its members were removed and now, how do we appoint the new ones?" the top official said.

"That is also a proposal we will submit to Congress on July 28," he affirmed.

In this sense, the Peruvian leader announced the Justice System Reform Commission will issue its final report on Wednesday.

It must be noted the commission's proposals will be included in the set of initiatives to be developed by the Executive Power.
