Peru President inaugurates Convergence and Good Energy-Mining Practices Center

18:05 | Lima, Aug. 1.

President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday led the inauguration ceremony for Rimay Convergence and Good Energy-Mining Practices Center.

Within this framework, the Peruvian leader signed a Supreme Decree that declares of national interest the design, development, and implementation of the aforementioned establishment.

According to the Head of State, one of his administration's priorities is to boost private investment in order to close gaps and improve Peruvian citizens' quality of life

Mining investments are of great importance to the Inca country, and a list of projects —worth over US$15 billion— was announced for this year.

In this sense, convergence of good practices is needed in order to assure the development of energy-mining projects and prevent their stagnation, he added.

Thus, the State, private sector, and civil society must discuss and analyze the design of extractive sector's projects to ensure the population's development.

Run by the Energy and Mines Ministry (MEM), this initiative is aimed at providing a space to share and promote good social, as well as environmental practices in the energy-mining sector.

The ceremony took place at the Government Palace's Tupac Amaru Hall in Lima.

It saw the presence of Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva and MEM Head Francisco Ismodes, among other cabinet members, as well as Ambassadors Gwyneth Kutz (Canada) and Nicholas McCaffrey (Australia).
