Peru President highlights new VRAEM development strategy results

10:27 | Lima, Dec. 11.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday highlighted the good results of the new strategy for development in the Valley of Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro Rivers (VRAEM) implemented during the 20 months of his administration.

VRAEM has been considered a danger zone due to the presence of drug-traffickers and terrorists. To counter this, the government has engaged in conflict with insurgents and implemented a social inclusion policy to benefit residents.

Thus, the top official reported that S/7 million (about US$2.064 million) has been invested in the acquisition of 40 cacao and coffee processing equipment to add value to national products.

"Consequently, this new strategy is bearing fruit," he added.

The President said he hopes that by 2021 the VRAEM will only be linked to positive news based on the success of the products it exports around the globe.

Remarks were made during his participation in the 1st edition of ExpoVRAEM 2019 held at the Government Palace's Courtyard of Honor.
