Peru President hails journalists' role in curbing corruption on their day

18:53 | Lima, Oct. 1.

President Martin Vizcarra greeted Peruvian journalists on their day, noting their vital role in the fight against corruption.

"Your role and work are crucial. The fight against corruption would not be possible without a responsible journalism (…)," the Head of State expressed.

According to him, journalism uncovers many illicit and hidden activities, as a result of a professional practice.

"Freedom of expression and opinion —the foundation of democracy we want to strengthen— exists thanks to journalism," the statesman added.

Messages and agreements made in favor of Peruvians are disseminated by journalists and the media, President Vizcarra highlighted.

"Let's work together, and thank you for dedicating your time to fighting against poverty-related issues," he concluded.

His remarks came as he attended the reinstatement of the Roundtable for the Fight against Poverty's (MCLCP) National Executive Committee held at the Government Palace.

Afterward, the Head of State stressed —via Twitter— journalism's role in the creation of a fair, democratic, and sustainable society.
