During a plenary session on Wednesday, Congress approved an authorization for the President of the Republic Pedro Castillo to travel to Colombia with the aim of participating in the Presidential Meeting and 6th Binational Cabinet on January 13.

This authorization was granted by 110 votes in favor, 4 against, and 1 abstention.

The Peru-Colombia Presidential Meeting and Binational Cabinet constitute the highest instance of political dialogue and coordination with the neighboring country. In fact, five similar meetings have been held since 2014.

The event consists of the following thematic axes: Social Affairs and Governance; Environmental and Mining-Energy Affairs; Trade, Economic Development and Tourism; Security and Defense; in addition to Border and Immigration Affairs.

This mechanism makes it possible to organize and boost the bilateral work agenda within the framework of political dialogue at the highest level.

It is aimed at identifying priority issues of common interest, promoting a dynamic, orderly and mutually-beneficial work agenda for the populations —namely those located in the border area.

Its format contributes to addressing those issues on the bilateral agenda whose handling is the responsibility of multiple national sectors, making the most of the presence (in the same venue) of all entities involved from both countries.
