Peru President: Gov't enhances health response capacity in Madre de Dios region

14:54 | Puerto Maldonado (Madre de Dios region), Jul. 12.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Sunday affirmed that the Government continues to expand the capacity of hospital services in regions where COVID-19 cases are rising, in order to provide timely and effective care for patients who need to be hospitalized.

A few days ago, he recalled, the Government of Peru issued an Urgency Decree to increase the health response capacity with the construction of temporary facilities and the provision of an additional 1,500 hospital beds in regions where interventions have not yet been implemented, like Madre de Dios, where 50 beds will be added.

"The new Villa EsSalud (EsSalud Village) in Madre de Dios region —to be supplied with medical equipment and staff—will be operational in the coming days. We work hard every day to assess the health needs of all regions," he affirmed.

Precisely, during his working visit to Madre de Dios region, the Head of State supervised the start of the construction of this temporary infrastructure aimed at reinforcing health services during the pandemic.

The facility will be attached to the Puerto Maldonado-based Victor Lazo Peralta Hospital, run by EsSalud, and is aimed at COVID-19 patients with mild or moderate symptoms.

The President visited the facility that houses the new tomograph in the diagnostic and treatment aid unit at said health center.

"Today, a new tomograph is put into service to help study different diseases and diagnose COVID-19. With the aim of enhancing its contribution in the fight against this disease, the telemedicine service will provide support from Lima so as to ensure its timely diagnosis and treatment," he stated.
