Peru President: Government willing to fight for country's future

12:40 | Lima, Jul. 28.

Peruvian Government is willing to fight for the country's future, President Martin Vizcarra said in his first Address to the Nation Saturday on the occasion of National Day celebrations.

"Besides holding a position, our mission is to provide services for the country's transformation and required reforms," the statesman expressed as he addressed the nation at Parliament headquarters.

"We won't hesitate when it comes to taking the necessary decisions to reach our goals," the Head of State affirmed.

Mr. Vizcarra recalled he assumed the presidency four months ago amid a severe political and institutional crisis triggered by corruption scandals and political confrontation, which led to an untenable situation.

Said situation, he continued, affected the political coexistence and institutionality, thus creating a major impact on the economy, so preserving affected institutions was the key priority.

"Since the very first day, we were clear about the scale of the challenge and the path we need to take to overcome such crisis," he stated.

Five axes

Likewise, the Head of State ratified the five axes set by his administration, which for the first time were consolidated through supreme decrees so as to become state policy by 2021, the country's Independence Bicentennial.

The axes are: (1) integrity and fight against corruption; (2) institutional strengthening for governance; (3) equitable, competitive, and sustainable economic growth; (4) social development and population's well-being; and (5) effective decentralization for development.
