Peru President: Government promotes development in Amazon region

11:23 | Mayuriaga (Loreto region), Apr. 26.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra affirmed his Government meets the principal needs of the Amazon population by providing better healthcare and education services, which will lay the foundations for rainforest communities and people's development.

During his visit to Mayuriaga community —located in Morona district of Datem del Marañon province— the Head of State affirmed his presence in the place is to address leaders and Apus (chiefs) with the purpose of hearing their main demands and needs.

"Development will be observed if everyone discharges their responsibilities, because the Government's mission is to meet and provide people with basic sanitation services, as well as education and healthcare, so that children and youngsters can be prepared to face the challenges of life," he indicated.

According to Vizcarra, the Amazon people have been neglected throughout the years, but the situation is changing under his administration, thanks to joint efforts with regional and local authorities.

"My presence here in Mayuriaga shows the Government's commitment to those Peruvians who received no attention at all. Here we are to change that situation. We cannot do it from one day to the other, but we are showing the joint efforts we make," he underlined.

Loreto agenda

During his visit to the rainforest region of Loreto, Vizcarra delivered a modern infrastructure aimed at pre-school and primary levels of a local school.

The infrastructure will benefit more than 150 pre-school and primary students, as the facilities were equipped to deal with local climate conditions.

These works are part of the Jungle Plan, which seeks to reduce the educational infrastructure gap and secure the basic living conditions at school buildings across the Peruvian Amazon so as to increase students' quality of learning.
