Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra said that one of his government's characteristics is to dialogue, listen and not impose when referring to the Tia Maria mining project.

Speaking from Moquegua region, where he inspected the execution of some works, the Head of State assured that a dialogue roundtable can be held in Tambo Valley, Arequipa, if there is a will to do so.

"With great pleasure, we are always willing to talk, listen, and never impose. This is our Government's characteristic, and the population knows that," he said.

He also reiterated that the mining project will not be imposed, provided that there are no conditions.

"The Minister of Environment (Fabiola Muñoz) has completed verifications in Arequipa along with the Agency for Environmental Assessment and Enforcement (OEFA). Our Government is open to dialogue, and we have demonstrated this at all times, by dialoguing, listening to leaders, and always looking for the best," he stated.

Joined by Ministers Zulema Tomas (Health) and Jorge Luis Montenegro (Agriculture), as well as by deputy transport and sanitation ministers, the Peruvian leader headed to Moquegua to pay an unexpected visit to water and riverine defense works in Tumilaca River.

Peru's top official affirmed that he works closely with the regional government and mayors to intervene critical spots along this tributary with heavy machinery.

He also announced that the studies for the construction of a new rock-protected boardwalk will be completed on November 15.

In addition, he assured that a drinking water plant will be set up before the end of the year in order to supply the towns of Tumilaca, El Comun and El Molino, which are currently supplied with water taken directly from the river.
