reflects the firmness of her Government in the fight against crime, Peru's Permanent Representative to this international organization, Carlos Pareja, highlighted on Wednesday.
"The fight, the war against crime, is institutionalized within the Peruvian Government. There will be no truce for criminal organizations or crime," Pareja stated.
"I believe that is what should be underscored: the firmness with which she expressed it before the international community," he added.
The diplomat said the President's speech was eminently political and reflected what she wants to accomplish during her term in office, as well as the main pillars of her Government's policy.
These include the fight against criminal organizations, which she described as terrorists.
"Then, at the Shield of the Americas meeting, all the countries agreed that these international criminal organizations should be classified as terrorists," the diplomat stated.
"This is a distinction or classification that was already underway, so I believe it has been a very important action," he added in an interview with RPP.
The ambassador noted that the President's speech said countries should have the right to determine their own democratic destiny, without interference from international organizations.
"What she expressed is that Peru's integration into the United Nations must take place with respect for our Constitution and for any differences that may exist between the views of its various commissions and those of the Government," the envoy indicated.
"She also said that there will be respect for justice and a separation of powers," he added.
IDB support for El Niño phenomenon
During the session, US$400 million in support against El Niño phenomenon was pledged.
The diplomat specified that half of that amount will be allocated to prevention measures and disbursed immediately.
Meanwhile, the remaining US$200 million will be provided as the emergency develops.
He also said the visit to Peru by three IDB missions had been agreed upon.
One will take place in September with the IDB vice president; another, in October, will be a full mission; and the IDB president will visit in November.
