The Head of State identified the fight against organized crime as one of the Government's priorities and underscored the importance of relying on the IDB's experience and financing to expand and enhance prison infrastructure.
In terms of citizen security, the collaboration agenda with the IDB includes measures aimed at improving the Peruvian National Police's criminal investigation capabilities and strengthening security at border crossings.
The meeting was held at the Government Palace in Lima.
It was attended by Ministers Elmer Cuba (Economy and Finance), Carlos Espa (Foreign Affairs), Jose Antonio Chang (Education), and Presidential Office Advisory Commission member Jose Chlimper.
Minister Elmer Cuba highlighted the importance of the IDB partnership to promote priority investments and projects that contribute to the country's development, enhance public services, and strengthen Peru's sustainable growth.
Addressing El Niño
Another topic discussed was preparedness and response to El Niño.
The President underscored that the Government is making every effort necessary to carry out prevention works.
Similarly, she highlighted the need to continue carrying out prevention works.
The Head of State expressed interest in securing IDB support both in the short term and to address any potential impacts caused by the phenomenon.
Educational infrastructure
The meeting also addressed the National Education Plan being promoted by the Government.
In this regard, the top official welcomed the dialogue initiated between the IDB's technical team and the Ministry of Education to advance its implementation and strengthen areas considered priorities.
These include defining a roadmap for implementing the plan, as well as access to international best practices related to reforms such as the Teacher Training School and the design of educational institutions with autonomous management.
Likewise, the meeting proposed gathering experiences that will enable the Education Ministry to design mechanisms for the construction and maintenance of educational infrastructure through public-private partnerships (PPPs), Works for Taxes, Works for Services, and direct public investment.
State reform
Regarding State reform, a priority identified by the Government, the technical dialogue initiated with the IDB to support the implementation of the Compliance Unit and the Administrative Bottleneck Removal Unit of the Strategic Secretariat of the Presidential Office was highlighted.
President Fujimori highlighted the relevance and scope of the work carried out by the IDB in Peru.
Currently, the country has a portfolio of 28 investment loans contracted with the institution in sectors such as transportation, sanitation, healthcare, justice, and agriculture, among others.
In this regard, the importance of IDB support to accelerate the implementation of these projects and ensure that their execution translates into concrete results and tangible benefits for the population was underscored.
Emphasis was also placed on the need to move forward with the disbursement of committed resources and improve the execution pace of the current portfolio.
Initiatives launched in New York
It is worth noting that this meeting follows up on the recent talks between President Keiko Fujimori and IDB Group President Ilan Goldfajn during her participation in the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
