Peru President calls for voter awareness ahead of regional, local elections

15:17 | Pangoa (Junin region), Apr. 19.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra addressed the population on Thursday urging them to choose the best candidates during the upcoming regional and municipal elections.

Plus, the President spoke on behalf of the Government to ensure a clean and transparent electoral process.

Speaking to locals in Pangoa district (Junin region), the Head of State said his administration will continue to work with current authorities on the development of their localities, regardless of their political party affiliation.

"This is a shared responsibility. We, the Government, must ensure clean and transparent elections; and you, the population, are required to appropriately choose the person you actually trust to work with the central government," he pointed out.

The statesman said national growth will only be possible together. Therefore, he insisted that they use critical thinking and vote consciously to pick the best ones.

He went on to explain the Government's goal —in the following three years— is to work hard to meet the population's priority needs, identified along with local authorities, noting the country can change with everyone's help.

Likewise, Mr. Vizcarra stressed the need to strike a balance between security —provided by the National Police and Armed Forces— and growth along the Valley of the Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro rivers (Vraem).

In fact, he affirmed increased spending in the area will result in lower investment in security.
