The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte suggested that Congress should assess with a sense of responsibility the bill presented by the Executive Branch, which proposes the advancement of general elections to October 2023.

On Wednesday night, the Executive Branch submitted to Parliament a new constitutional reform bill, which establishes the modification of the terms in office of the President of the Republic, and of representation by Andean Congress members and parliamentarians elected in the 2021 General Elections.

"We reiterate our call for this legislative initiative to be assessed by Parliament with a sense of responsibility and the urgency demanded by the country," said President Boluarte, according to a tweet from the Presidential Office.

Said initiative by the Executive Branch proposes that the President of the Republic call General Elections to elect the President and Vice-Presidents of the Republic, as well as Congress members on the second Sunday of October in 2023.

"I lament that Congress has not reached the necessary consensus to bring the elections forward. As I announced in my latest Address to the Nation, we will immediately submit the bill so that Peruvians can democratically elect their authorities in 2023," she underlined.
