President Martin Vizcarra on Saturday led Peru's Independence Bicentennial Agenda launching event in the city of Ayacucho.

On this occasion, the Head of State requested Peruvians to assume a commitment aimed at becoming independent from the scourge of corruption, which has affected the nation.

The top official was joined by Culture Minister Patricia Balbuena, among other guests, at the Andean metropolis' main square.

The event began with a parade, in which a troupe performed a traditional dance from Andean Ayacucho region.

Other Peruvian artists were present as well.

Days ago, Huamanga Province Mayor Hugo Aedo expressed his gratitude for the selection of Ayacucho as the city where the main ceremony would take place.

The official affirmed this choice represents an important recognition of the region's role during the Inca country's independence consolidation process.

He went on to add the city seeks to become a tourist destination.

Sightseers can visit Ayacucho's churches, colonial houses, as well as archaeological sites such as Wari and Vilcashuaman complexes.

Likewise, visitors can taste the city's diverse gastronomy and buy beautiful handicrafts.

It should be noted it is also the third-safest metropolis in Peru.
