Peru President: 1,500 additional beds to reinforce hospital response against COVID-19

17:04 | Lima, Jul. 3.

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Friday announced that —in the next few days— 1,500 new beds will be added to hospitals in various regions of Peru, with the aim of strengthening the response against COVID-19.

The Head of State specified that these will be enabled in San Martin, Huanuco, Amazonas, Junin, Pasco, Tacna, Moquegua and Puno —regions that currently show a slight growth in cases and had not previously demanded an additional amount.

As part of the Government's efforts in this expansion process, the top official highlighted the inclusion of the temporary hospital set up in Huiracocha Park belonging to Lima's San Juan de Lurigancho district.

During his visit to this temporary center —which will soon start operations— the statesman stressed that it is a new infrastructure managed by the Authority for Reconstruction with Changes and that it will make available 200 additional beds in order to attend to moderate COVID-19 patients.

In this regard, the President emphasized that the Government continuously leads the increase in health capacity throughout the country.

Mr. Vizcarra also recalled that —during the state of emergency— various hospital facilities have been set up, such as the Mongrut Village Isolation Center, and the Lima 2019 Pan American Village towers, among other temporary buildings refurbished in Lima and other regions to face the pandemic.

Quarantine

Arequipa, Ica, Junin, Huanuco, San Martin, Madre de Dios, and Ancash remain under mandatory social isolation. In those areas, residents are allowed to leave their homes only to have access to essential services and goods and to carry out authorized economic activities.
