States of emergency were declared in a total of 750 districts across the country, thus facilitating emergency response and relief efforts for rain, landslide and flooding victims, Prime Minister Fernando Zavala informed Thursday.
The Cabinet Chief —currently overseeing said efforts in northern La Libertad region— highlighted the deployment of State ministers in various affected areas throughout Peru.
"The Central Government has been working on addressing disasters over the past weeks; we didn't begin just yesterday,'' Zavala expressed.
In this respect, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers affirmed the National Police has joined emergency response efforts, deploying five helicopters to Chiclayo city.
Zavala met with Regional Government authorities on Thursday morning to coordinate actions to assist flooding victims, as well as to clear transport routes.
The high-ranking official was joined by Defense Minister Jorge Nieto.
Justice Minister
The Central Government is focused on attending emergencies and allocating corresponding resources to tackle natural disasters, Justice and Human Rights Minister Marisol Perez Tello stated.
Likewise, the cabinet member urged Peruvian citizens not to expose themselves to danger.
In addition, she called for calm and unity in light of the latest events.
"The government tackles this situation with resources […]," Perez Tello assured.
She noted catastrophes —occurred in northern Piura region— force citizens to seriously reconsider how corresponding reconstruction works should be executed in the future, and thus prevent disasters from ever happening again.
