Peruvian Prime Minister Luis Arroyo stressed that President Jose Maria Balcazar's transitional government is committed to an orderly and transparent transfer of power in accordance with the Constitution.

"The Executive Branch will hand over to the next government a country that is moving forward, with an economy that continues to grow, functioning institutions, and conditions that help ensure the continuity of public policies," Arroyo stated on Wednesday evening.

"That will be the best demonstration of the strength of our democracy and the maturity of our institutions," he emphasized.

Likewise, the Cabinet chief noted that Peru is going through a democratic transition process that requires responsibility, calm and full respect for institutional order.

"That is the firm commitment of the President of the Republic," he said.

Relations with the United States

At another point in his speech during the ceremony marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence, the Prime Minister highlighted Peru's strong and longstanding relationship with the North American country.

In that regard, the Cabinet chief said the economic relationship between the two countries is one of the main pillars of bilateral ties.

He added that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has strengthened bilateral commerce, making the United States the main destination for Peru's non-traditional exports.

"In addition, there is increasingly close cooperation in defense, security, the fight against organized crime, and, more recently, in space-related matters, with Peru's active participation in the Artemis Accords and other bilateral cooperation initiatives," Arroyo pointed out.

Lastly, he underscored that the greatest strength of the bilateral relationship lies in the people of both countries, noting that more than one million Peruvians contribute their work and talent to the development of the U.S., while more Americans visit Peru every year.
