Prime Minister Anibal Torres on Wednesday announced that an agreement was reached with the carriers' union so that members end the strike that began in recent days.

As the official detailed, this agreement was reached by the Ministry of Transportation-Communications (MTC), the National Union of Carriers, and the Confederation of Carriers of Peru.

According to the Cabinet chief, the State has pledged to simplify and accelerate the return of Selective Consumption Tax (ISC) to carriers from 70 to 30 days.

The return will be made through deposit in bank accounts. The measure also includes passenger transportation services at the regional level, he indicated.

The Cabinet chief said the increase in product prices —especially of basic needs— due to increase in the price of oil, given the Russia-Ukraine war, is being faced.

"This situation does not only happen in Peru, but (also) in the rest of the world. It is due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has determined the increase in the prices of oil and fuels (...) and also the prices of products, especially those of basic needs," he added.

Therefore, measures are being taken, including the aforementioned agreement with carriers, to end the strike they had started.

Remarks were made during the press conference following the latest Council of Ministers session held at the Government Palace in Lima.
