The Peruvian vaccination process against COVID-19 with the doses purchased from Pfizer pharmaceutical company will begin on March 8, Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez affirmed on Thursday.

The high-ranking official indicated that —between today and Friday— the team in charge of the logistics will carry out the respective coordination for the distribution of vaccines.

"This figure will gradually increase," she added.

"We have acquired larger refrigeration equipment because larger batches will arrive; there are no problems with the cold chain," she stated.

Vaccination of health personnel

Regarding complaints about the administration of doses to clerical staff in this area, she affirmed that they are workers who must provide direct attention to other citizens.

The Cabinet chief pointed out that between 35% and 40% of health personnel have been working remotely since the pandemic began in Peru in March 2020, adding that the administration of vaccines will allow them to resume their duties.

In addition, the Prime Minister stressed that there is permanent support from the private sector in this vaccination process.

Bermudez also reminded citizens that the distribution of vaccines is carried out on planes of private companies, along with those of the Armed Forces. In this sense, she recalled that the arrival cost of the first vaccine batch was fully paid for by the business sector.
