Peru: Pedro Castillo receives president credential

Pedro Castillo Terrones on Friday afternoon received from the National Elections Board (JNE) the credential accrediting him as President of the Republic for the 2021-2026 term.

The document was handed over by JNE Chairman Jorge Luis Salas.


The JNE remarked that the electoral process was carried out in a transparent manner and with strict adherence to the Constitution, the law, and other regulations in force in Peru.

Moreover, the institution stressed that this is recognized by national and international observers, who acted in the elections and the governments of other countries.

At today's ceremony, Dina Boluarte Zegarra also received her credential as Vice President of the Republic.

The corresponding ceremony was held at the Culture Ministry's Los Incas Auditorium in Lima.

Biography

Pedro Castillo was born on October 19, 1969, in Tacabamba district (Cajamarca region), where he had been residing until recently.

He is the third of nine siblings. His parents are Ireño Castillo Nuñez and Mavila Terrones Guevara.

The President-elect studied at Octavio Matta Contreras Pedagogical Institute in Cutervo, and graduated in education from Cesar Vallejo University.

He also holds a master's degree in educational psychology from said institution.

From 1995 to the present, Mr. Castillo has practiced his profession as teacher at educational institution 10465 in Puña village, Tacabamba —the first school he had attended as a child.
