The U-17 and Junior World Weightlifting Championship Lima 2025 came to an end with great success and received applause from the international delegations who, for six consecutive days, gave it their all at Polideportivo 3 of Videna-IPD.
The competition was a celebration of emotions, effort, and overcoming limits, where the best talents of the future lifted not only weights, but also the spirit of sport.
Peru achieved first place by teams in the U-17 male category —by presenting a full delegation— and the women’s team placed fourth, while in the junior division, our boys ranked in tenth place and the girls in seventh position.
This World Championship received international praise thanks to the support of the Government of Peru and the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD), whose support was fundamental to making an event of this magnitude a reality.
The Peruvian Weightlifting Sports Federation, under the leadership of its president Manuel del Castillo, showed exemplary organizational capacity, carrying out a world championship and raising the name of the country.
This event included the participation of 531 weightlifters from 79 countries, among them powerhouses such as China, South Korea, Bulgaria, and independent nations.
New talents
The Peruvian delegation was made up of 36 athletes, among them outstanding talents from the Athlete Support Program (PAD) of the IPD, the IPD Academy of Ica, and the CEDE school of the IPD.
For the first time in history, two world categories, U-17 and U-20, were held jointly, marking a milestone for international sport.
In addition, the competition was held on a double platform, allowing male and female events to be contested simultaneously in the same sports venue.
