The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) has affirmed that non-traditional farming and
managed to grow 4.3% and 3.8%, respectively, in January 2020.
"Compared to the same month the previous year, these figures were possible thanks to higher sales of grapes (+25.5%), mangoes (+9.1%), asparagus (+12.9%), avocados (+55.9%), canned fish (+23.6%), frozen fish (+9.7%), and shrimp (+5.2%)," Deputy Foreign Trade Minister Sayuri Bayona expressed in this sense.
Likewise, the official indicated that there were significant growths in shipments of mining products such as
gold (+4.4%), tin (+35%), iron (+34.7%), and zinc (+24%).
Concerning non-metallic mining exports, the increase in calcium phosphate shipments (+9.4%) stood out.
Moreover, growth in exports of chemical products (+1.9%) was due to the sharp increase in shipments of ethyl alcohol (+354.3%) and sulfuric acid (+103.5%).
"There was also an increase in steel exports (+10.2%) thanks to higher prices (+5%) and exported volumes (+5%) of products such as construction iron," she said.
Total exports
Despite the growth of these sectors and products, the country's total exports fell 4.3% in the first month of the year due to the reduction in shipments of important products such as
copper (-7.5%), natural gas (-58% ), coffee (-31%), fishmeal (-23.5%), and textile products (-20.7%).
