Former Justice Minister and ex-Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Victor Garcia, has been appointed Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations (UN) in New York.

According to a supreme resolution published Tuesday in El Peruano Official Gazette, the corresponding credential letters and full powers will be granted to the new representative.

Likewise, the document indicates that the date on which Garcia Toma will assume his duties is to be set by ministerial resolution.

The resolution was signed by the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte and Economy-Finance Minister Alex Contreras —as acting head of the Foreign Affairs' office until Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi returns from her trip.

Victor Garcia Toma has recently served as member of the advisory committee on constitutional matters that reports to the Presidency of the Republic, which was established by Supreme Resolution No. 079-2023-PCM.
