Peru: Minsa ensures oxygen supply in regional hospitals

10:08 | Lima, Jul. 8.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Wednesday secured the supply for medical oxygen —a vital part of the treatment regime for critically-ill COVID-19 patients— at hospitals in the 25 regions across the country.

In a press release, Minsa referred to a statement issued by the Ombudsman's Office and noted that the data provided herein correspond to June 24, 25 and 26, and "do not reflect the current situation of oxygen supply at the national level."

The top health authority stated that its immediate objective "is to guarantee the supply for the 25 regions by moving oxygen from surplus to deficit areas.”

"Simultaneously, we will acquire plants to distribute them to the areas that need them," it added.

In this sense, Minsa indicated that, so far, its efforts have managed to provide an additional 101.2 tons of oxygen. Besides, the sector has restored oxygen plants, acquired new ones, and added private donations it received.

Additionally, the ministry indicated that air bridges have been established to help cities with the highest demand for oxygen given the increase in critically-ill COVID-19 patients.
