16:00 | Tumbes (Tumbes region), Mar. 10.

Defense Minister Jorge Chavez Cresta on Friday reported that starting tomorrow the government will deploy Cabinet members to Peru's northern areas affected by torrential rains, with the aim of providing assistance to the population.

Therefore, the impact that rains have had in Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, and Cajamarca regions is being assessed.

"Tomorrow, each minister representing each sector will come, by virtue of this evaluation, to bring aid, take actions directly, and assist the population," Chavez told reporters in Tumbes.

The high-ranking official currently pays an inspection visit to said northern region.

Following his arrival at Pedro Canga Rodriguez Airport, the Cabinet member traveled to Villa Jardin settlement in Puerto Pizarro population center.

There, 700 families suffer the onslaught of rains —the latest of which began today at 3:00 a.m. (local time) and lasted 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Chavez visited the place, listening to the claims of residents, who have seen their houses flooded.

Afterwards, the minister arrived in Aguas Verdes district. There, he observed the work carried out by Army personnel to remove mud from roads.

Addressing military agents, the government official expressed his gratitude and said that they will be provided with more equipment to continue carrying out this task.

The Defense minister continued his tour of Tumbes region areas most affected by rains.
