Peru: Ministerial Cabinet gets confidence vote

Most Congress members granted a confidence vote to Prime Minister Mirtha Vasquez's Cabinet on Thursday evening.

The Cabinet received 68 votes in favor, 56 against, and 1 abstention.

The Prime Minister returned to Congress headquarters this morning joined by Cabinet members to listen to the parliamentary debate and continue addressing the current Government's general policy.

During her speech, the high-ranking official mentioned the efforts undertaken by the Government. In this sense, she emphasized that economic reactivation, as well as the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and corruption are the Government's priorities. 

As is known, Mirtha Vasquez was sworn in as Prime Minister on October 6 to lead the Cabinet under the administration of President Pedro Castillo. 

According to Article 130 of the Constitution, the Prime Minister must attend Congress joined by the Cabinet to present and debate the Government's general policy —within 30 days after having been sworn in to office.
