Mirtha Vasquez sworn in as new Prime Minister of Peru

Mirtha Esther Vasquez Chuquilin on Wednesday evening was sworn in as new Prime Minister of Peru to replace Guido Bellido in the post.

Vasquez, 46, is a lawyer and ex legislator. In addition, she served as Congress Chairwoman during the Transition Government of ex-President Francisco Sagasti.

"I swear by God, by this country of women and men, who struggle to live every day, without discrimination, and who promote real changes," she stated.

The new head of the Ministerial Cabinet served as a lawmaker for Frente Amplio in the 2020-2021 period.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Government Palace in Lima and was led by the President of the Republic Pedro Castillo.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Head of State announced that he had accepted the resignation of Guido Bellido as Prime Minister of Peru.

In an Address to the Nation, he also said that the swearing-in ceremony of the new Cabinet would take place on Wednesday evening.
