According to figures from Minem's Mining Statistical Bulletin (BEM), direct employment figures last March accounted for a 4.7% increase compared to March 2020, thus consolidating mining's growth and its contribution to job creation.
Energy and Mines Minister Jaime Galvez pointed out that the upward trend in the sector's employment figure shows that this activity is essential in the efforts to boost the economy and the growth that the country needs to regain the rates it registered before the state of health emergency had begun.

Peruvian Institute of Economics (IPE)— for every job generated directly in the mining activity, eight additional ones are generated in the rest of the economy: one due to an indirect effect, three because of the effect induced in consumption, and four over the effect induced on investment.
Concerning the distribution of mining employment at the regional level, Ancash rose to first place with 27,440 workers, representing 13.3% of the total. Arequipa (12.2% of participation) was ranked second; followed by Junin, which accounted for 9.3% of the total employed personnel.
Regarding the type of employer, jobs generated by contractors in March accounted for 69.6% of total employment in mining, reflecting an increase of 8.7% compared to the same month in 2020. For their part, mining companies have generated 30.4% of total direct jobs.
