Peru: Mining and hydrocarbons sector up 4.01% in Nov 2019

08:34 | Lima, Jan. 2.

Mining and hydrocarbon sector's production expanded 4.01% over the same month in 2018, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) has reported.

According to INEI's technical report on the Current Expansion of Economic Activity, the positive behavior of the metal mining sub-sector contributed 3.53% to this outcome, which was evidenced by increased extraction of iron (94.7%), molybdenum (57.3%), lead (9.1%), tin (0.7%), zinc (0.4%), and silver (0.04%).

However, the production of gold and copper posted a decline of 10.3% and 1.6%, respectively.

Likewise, the hydrocarbon sub-sector output increased by 6.68%, due to greater extraction of crude oil (31.4%) and natural gas (3.2%), whereas the production of natural gas liquids decreased 5.8%.

It should be noted that the favorable result of oil production was based on the activity of Petrotal Peru, which began commercial exploitation of Block 95 on December 1, 2018.

The greater activity of CNPC Peru contributed to the outcome, as well as the normalization of operations in Block 8 by Pluspetrol Norte and Block Z-1 by Pacific Off Shore Peru.

In the case of natural gas, the increased production of Pluspetrol Peru Corporation, Aguaytia, and Olympic —associated with the demand for such resource for electricity generation— contributed to the outcome.
