Peru: Lima Metro Line 2 to be completed by 2024

13:52 | Lima, Dec. 13.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday announced the Lima Metro Line 2 will be completed by 2024, thus benefiting more than 2 million inhabitants.

His remarks were made at the launch of the new project schedule in Lima.

During the ceremony, he was joined by Transport and Communications Minister Edmer Trujillo, plus his Housing, Construction, and Sanitation counterpart Javier Pique.

The Head of State noted the new schedule will speed up the project deadline from 2032 to 2024.

He stressed the fact that only 24% of the works have been completed since 2014, and that the project would be finished in 2032 if adhering to the original schedule.

Therefore, he found it necessary to speed up the execution process.

In view of this situation, the Ministry of Transport along with the concessionaire discussed and signed a new schedule for the project to reach completion by 2024, "that is to say, the execution time was reduced by eight years."

"This work is going to benefit over 2 million citizens in the capital city, and —in consequence— a total of 5,000 jobs will be created. We will be vigilant to ensure the schedule is achieved and the first stretch is operational by 2020," he expressed.
