The
on Wednesday reported that Fuerza Popular and Peru Libre parties agreed earlier today to hold two debates prior to the presidential election runoff scheduled for June 6.
Said agreement was adopted during the meeting called by the electoral institution.
The two debates were established by consensus, it pointed out.
After referring that the details of the debates will be defined in a next meeting this Friday, the institution thanked the democratic spirit of both groups to reach this agreement for the benefit of the citizenry.
Previously, the
JNE had indicated that electoral debates are not a legal obligation but an ethical commitment of political organizations.
Said commitment is derived from the Electoral Ethical Pact previously signed by parties participating in an electoral race, it specified.
The
JNE has organized presidential debates since 2011.
On the coming occasion, a technical debate will be held on May 23 followed by that of candidates a week later, on May 30.
