Peru: Legislators get details over action plan on state of emergency in Trujillo and Pataz

08:31 | Lima, Feb. 15.

Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola met with legislators from La Libertad region, with whom he shared details of the action plan that will be implemented within the framework of the state of emergency declared in the provinces of Pataz and Trujillo, in order to combat crime.

During the meeting on Wednesday, the Cabinet chief highlighted that the declaration of a state of emergency in these two provinces seeks to reduce crime incidents.

"Domestic order control has been entrusted to the Armed Forces, and the Police will provide all logistical support to that end. Intervention is needed because there are about 20 organized gangs," he affirmed.

Last Monday, the Council of Ministers approved a 60-day state of emergency in the provinces of Trujillo and Pataz, located in northern La Libertad region, due to the rise in the crime wave and illegal mining activities.

In Trujillo, the Peruvian National Police (PNP) will be in charge of maintaining control of domestic order, with the support of the Armed Forces.

In the case of Pataz, the Armed Forces will ensure the control of domestic order.

Interventions by law enforcement agencies shall be undertaken in full respect of fundamental rights.
