The return to in-person learning at urban and rural schools nationwide will take place between March 1 and 14, 2022, and educational services will be provided through face-to-face, blended, and remote learning modalities.

This is was pointed out in the document "Regulations for the return to face-to-face and/or blended learning and the provision of educational services for the 2022 school year at institutions and educational programs imparting basic education —in urban and rural areas— within the framework of the health emergency caused by COVID-19," approved by the Ministry of Education (Minedu).

The document was approved by Ministerial Resolution No. 531-2021-MINEDU, published in the Official Gazette El Peruano.

The rule also provides that in-person classes at urban schools will last no more than 4 chronological hours a day, in a first phase; while in-person learning in rural areas will follow the regular schedule based on the school day, said Hugo Reynaga, Advisor to the Deputy Ministry of Pedagogical Management within Minedu.

Reynaga explained that gradual return to in-person learning is prioritized —according to the conditions in educational institutions— given that socialization and feedback are essential to improve learning.

In the case of in-person learning times, educational institutions shall schedule the maximum daily learning hours, pursuant to the protocols contained in the rule.

The blended modality combines remote and face-to-face learning and covers five days a week, following a schedule that is determined based on the characteristics and conditions of each educational institution.

In the above-mentioned modality, teachers shall address schedules, means of communication, and tools for remote learning with students and their families.
