Peru: Iberico sworn in as Congressman, to replace fugitive Donayre

15:38 | Lima, May. 8.

Luis Iberico was sworn in as new legislator on Wednesday and began his parliamentary duties while replacing Edwin Donayre, who —last week— was removed from Congress to serve a 5-year sentence imposed by the Judicial Branch.

The swearing-in took place before the plenary session and in front of Legislative Branch Chairman Daniel Salaverry.

Last Tuesday, Iberico received the corresponding credentials from the National Election Board (JNE) thru the end of the 2016-2021 term.

Three years ago, he obtained 27,202 preferential votes, in accordance with the General Proclamation of Results Act.

As is known, Parliament declared the vacancy of Donayre through Resolution No. 016-2018-2019-P-CR on May 3.
