Human rights organizations lodged a complaint against former President Manuel Merino and resigning Prime Minister Antero Flores-Araoz —before the Public Ministry— over the death of two young people during Saturday's demonstrations in Peru.

The complaint also involves resigning Interior Minister Gaston Rodriguez and General Jorge Luis Cayas, chief of the Lima Police Region.

The statement of complaint was made over the alleged crimes of aggravated homicide, serious injuries, and abuse of authority, through a document sent to Attorney General Zoraida Avalos.

In the document, human rights organizations detail the events occurred last week during one of the citizens' protests, where tear gas and pellets were used against them.

Additionally, they state that demonstrations began calmly, but around 8 p.m. the National Police started to repress them.

The signatory human rights organizations included APRODEH, CEAS, COMISEDH, DEMUS, FEDEPAZ, IDL, and PAZ ESPERANZA.

The swearing-in of Merino and his former administration sparked off major protests nationwide.
