Peru's Housing, Construction, and Sanitation Ministry (MVCS) delivered 472 bioclimatic houses to South-Andean Ayachuco region residents as part of the government's efforts to prevent frosts from affecting locals.
Recipients were citizens of Santa Rosa, Chauchura, and Vista Alegre population centers in Cangallo province.
The construction of these
houses —called Sumaq Wasi or Nice Home— started in September 2017.
"This way, the Housing, Construction, and Sanitation Ministry provides a sustainable and permanent response to recurring climate events in this area of the country," National Rural Housing program Executive-Director Leonel Palacios noted.

Each 18-square-meter house has two rooms and entails an investment of S/19,000 (about US$5,783).
They were built through a special system with materials that work as thermal insulation. Also, their infrastructure is earthquake-resistant, as their adobe walls are reinforced with reeds.
