Peru: Health Ministry implements primary care level in Arequipa region

09:59 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Jul. 30.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) has implemented the primary care level in provinces across Arequipa in order to contain the spread of COVID-19 in said region, with the participation of locals.

For example, a meeting was held in the district of Mollendo, located in Islay Province, where its inhabitants agreed to establish a community committee to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

The initiative will involve the participation of all the institutions within said jurisdiction, resulting in a joint work.

The participating institutions welcomed the agreement, showing initiative and proactivity to contribute to reducing COVID-19 transmissions and infections in the locality.

The meeting was attended by Mollendo's health councilor, who participated on behalf of the mayor.

The participants also agreed to take various actions to prevent the spread of the disease, such as training rapid response teams in Islay Province, implementing an epidemiological fence with the support of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) in some areas, and conducting screenings at locations such as markets in Cocachacra district.

A month ago, the Arequipa's Regional Health Management (Geresa) Office carried out a screening at the Cocachacra market, where 68 rapid tests were taken and only one positive case was detected, that is, the percentage of positive tests was 1.5%.

Now, a total of 100 tests are expected to be completed as part of this second screening.
