Peru: Guillen sworn in as Interior Minister

Former Supreme Prosecutor Avelino Guillen was sworn in as new Interior Minister on Thursday morning.


The ceremony was led by President Pedro Castillo at the Government Palace in Lima.

About

67-year-old Guillen participated as Deputy Supreme Prosecutor in the La Cantuta and Barrios Altos case trial of former President Alberto Fujimori, who is currently imprisoned.

In 2009, he received the Angel Escobar Jurado National Human Rights Award from the National Human Rights Coordinator, in recognition of his career.

The former magistrate is a lawyer graduated from San Martin de Porres University in the capital city.

Besides, he was part of Peru Libre party's technical team during the last electoral campaign.

Starting today, Guillen joins the ministerial team led by Cabinet Chief Mirtha Vasquez.
