Prime Minister Anibal Torres on Wednesday stated that the Government will attend, adopt measures, and assume commitments which contribute to the solution of the problem in the Valley of Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers (VRAEM), deploying efforts coordinated with local authorities and social organizations.

During the beginning of the 7th Decentralized Council of Ministers, the Cabinet chief argued that State resources are limited, so priority should be given to satisfying the most urgent needs.

In this sense, the Prime Minister pointed out that the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) has as its baseline the supervision of the implementation of the National Policy against Drugs by 2030, based on which a series of aspects related to this problem will be addressed.

Among them, he mentioned attention to the social conflict related to the reduction of coca crops, granting more resources for the fight against drugs, and control of crops.

Likewise, the high-ranking official called on lawmakers; local and regional authorities; social and indigenous leaders; as well as the population in general to join forces so as to ensure compliance with the commitments assumed within the framework of the meeting.

"The problem in the VRAEM dates back to decades of neglect and ineffective strategies. This Government is willing to address it by strengthening the different government levels and articulating (efforts) with the various social organizations present here," he noted his speech.

Torres pointed out that for the Government —in general— and the Cabinet —in particular— this problem constitutes a challenge that calls for dialogue and finding concrete solutions for the benefit of the most vulnerable population.

He also indicated that, at the end of this activity, an agreement would be signed by the Ministry of Defense, as well as the Regional Governments of Cusco, Apurimac, Junin, Ayacucho, and Huancavelica, so that regional and local authorities can rely on flight hours to attend to emergencies, aeromedical evacuations, and natural disasters.
