Peru Gov't implements early measures to contain coronavirus

10:40 | Lima, Mar. 23.

Peru's recently sworn-in Health Minister Victor Zamora affirmed that President Martin Vizcarra has implemented the most aggressive and early measures to contain the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the South American country.

"The President has implemented the most aggressive and early measures, compared to other realities, and we have acted effectively to see the impact we expect, that is, to stop the spread of the epidemic in our society," he said Sunday in remarks to Cuarto Poder TV show.

There are two pillars in the strategy to face this disease, one is that people should stay at home and, the other involves Minsa's capacity to deliver the diagnosis.

Likewise, the brand-new minister noted the Government's attempt to improve the 113-telephone line and expand its attention in order to receive some 80,000 calls.

Additionally, the capacity to run diagnostic tests will increase fivefold and, to do so, he said, two special equipment units will be purchased to achieve the target goal of ramping up from 500 to 5,000 tests per day.
