The
Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) has officially created the temporary intervention "Zero Hunger," whose aim is to contribute to reducing food insecurity gaps in a targeted, differentiated, and gradual manner.
The regulation provides that the principal beneficiaries will be the population in urban and rural areas in a situation of vulnerability due to the spread of COVID-19.
The resolution indicates that such temporary intervention will be led by Midis —in close coordination and articulation with different competent sectors and levels of government— throughout 2021, within the framework of their competences.
According to the rule, the establishment of "Zero Hunger" is based on the solidarity commitment to the protection of life
"Peru Zero Hunger" of the National Agreement, which assumes the task of bringing vitality to the effort to defeat hunger in the context of the COVID-19 crisis.
To do this, it proposes to promote and contribute to the articulation of the three levels of government and civil society.
This articulation is intended to implement interventions for food fortification and nutritional supplementation in the most vulnerable populations, establish distribution chains to reach out to those who need it, promote the prioritization of the purchase of national agricultural and livestock production —mainly of family farmers— and promote national production of required goods.
It also states that the purpose of this intervention is to contribute to the reduction of food insecurity gaps, which have increased in the country as a result of the spread of COVID-19.
Additionally, it stresses the need to determine the strategic and operational guidelines for its implementation in 2021.
