Peru Gov't authorizes Alberto Borea's trip on official duty

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has authorized Alberto Alfonso Borea Odria — Peru's official candidate for the position of judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for the 2025-2030 term— to travel on official duty.

Through Ministerial Resolution No. 0283-2024-RE, the Peruvian candidate was authorized to visit the cities of San Jose, in the Republic of Costa Rica; Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic; San Salvador, in the Republic of El Salvador; and, Panama, in the Republic of Panama, from April 7 to 13, 2024.

Borea Odria will participate in high-level meetings with authorities of those countries in order to promote his candidacy, while presenting his ideas and work plan.

The resolution indicates that the presentation of his candidacy is of utmost relevance, as the Peruvian State seeks to maintain equitable and fair geographical representation in the composition of the main and autonomous bodies of the Inter-American Human Rights System (IAHRS) and to contribute positively to the IAHRS.

Furthermore, it states that in accordance with the Statute of the Inter-American Court, this candidacy seeks to promote the election of a national jurist of the highest moral authority recognized for his expertise in matters of human rights and who meets the conditions required for the exercise of the highest judicial functions at this international court.

The election for the position of Judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for the 2025-2030 term will take place within the framework of the Fifty-Fourth Regular Session of the General Assembly of the OAS, which will be held in the city of Asuncion, Republic of Paraguay, from June 26 to 28, 2024.

The nomination of Alberto Borea Odria was made official through Supreme Resolution No. 070-2024-RE, published in El Peruano Official Gazette.
