Peru Gov't arranges plane to fly COVID-19 patients from Arequipa to Lima

13:52 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Jul. 19.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Sunday reported that his Government has arranged a plane to transport COVID-19 patients from the southern region of Arequipa to the capital city Lima.

"We are even contemplating an airlift to meet the demand. We have arranged a plane that will permanently travel between Lima and Arequipa to provide transfers when needed," the statesman explained.

In fact, he informed that a major regional authority will be flown to the capital city today.

Mr. Vizcarra emphasized that the Government is making an effort to increase hospitals' bed capacity to 700 in Arequipa —a region that has seen a rise in COVID-19 cases.

The Peruvian leader stated that 30 health centers in Arequipa provide primary care services to diagnose and treat the novel coronavirus, and noted that hospitals should be the last resort.
