The Peruvian Government has ratified the
, adopted on July 7, 2017, at the United Nations headquarters.
It was signed by Peru on September 20 of the same year and approved by Legislative Resolution on December 21, 2021.
Supreme Decree No. 075-2021-RE was published in the Official Gazette El Peruano last Thursday.
The aforementioned treaty is ratified with the following declaration
By virtue of the provisions of Article 2, Paragraph 1, of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW):
a) The Republic of Peru declares that it has not owned, possessed, or controlled nuclear weapons or nuclear explosive devices, nor has it relied on any nuclear weapons program, including the elimination or irreversible conversion of all facilities linked to nuclear weapons, prior to entry into force of the TPNW for the Peruvian State.
b) Without prejudice to the provisions of Article 1 a) of the TPNW, the Government declares that it does not own, possess, or control nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.
c) Without prejudice to the provisions of Article 1 g) of the TPNW, the Government declares that there are no nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices in its territory or in any place under its jurisdiction or control that another State may own, possess, or control.
Besides, it affirms that the ratification of the aforementioned treaty is in accordance with the provisions of Articles 56 and 118, subsection 11 of the Political Constitution of Peru and Article 2 of Law No. 26647.
