The Government of Peru has been promoting an awareness-raising campaign to prevent infection with the monkeypox virus and its spread across the entire Peruvian territory.

Through social media channels operated by various government agencies, citizens are informed about the symptoms of the disease and what to do if they have any of them.

"If you want to receive guidance on monkeypox and how to prevent it, call 113 from any mobile or landline in the country," the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) said through its Twitter account.

For instance, the Ministry of Defense (Mindef) reported that monkeypox is a disease caused by a virus that causes rashes and skin lesions.

It is spread by close physical contact with the rash or skin lesions of an infected person.

Moreover, monkeypox can be spread through close skin-to-skin contact during sexual intercourse.

Infection also occurs when a person makes contact with contaminated materials such as clothing, bedding or utensils of an infected person.

Likewise, the disease can be transmitted through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person talks, coughs, or sneezes.
