Peru: Government extends state of national emergency thru August 31

The Peruvian Government has extended the state of national emergency for 31 calendar days due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The extension will start on August 1, 2021.


In this sense, the exercise of constitutional rights relating to personal freedom and security, the inviolability of homes, and the freedom of assembly, as well as transit across the national territory, are restricted.

The National Police and Armed Forces will safeguard compliance with the measures established within the framework of the state of national emergency.

The regulation also indicates the alert level in provinces and regions.

Moderate alert level: Huanuco, Lambayeque, Loreto, Madre de Dios, Piura, and Ucayali.

High alert level: Amazonas, Ancash, Apurimac, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huancavelica, Ica, Junin, La Libertad, Lima, Pasco, Puno, San Martin, Tumbes, and Callao.

Very high level: Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna.

Curfew and use of private vehicles

The Government also ordered that the mandatory social immobility (curfew) shall run until August 8th. 

Moderate and high alert levels: Mondays-Sundays from midnight to 4:00 a.m.

Very high alert: Mondays-Sundays from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

However, people will be allowed to move if they require urgent medical care or medications, or if they participate in the vaccination process.

Moreover, the use of private vehicles on Sundays will be restricted until August 8, 2021, in very high alert areas.
