Peru: Government develops legal framework to boost SMEs

13:44 | Lima, May. 14.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed his administration will support small- and medium-sized enterprises' (SMEs) efforts to create associations and have the capacity to attend to big projects and demands, such as the one generated by the upcoming Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

For that reason, the Head of State informed the Production Ministry (Produce) currently develops a mechanism and legal instrument to repeat the experience achieved with the Purchase Execution Unit (NEC).

Through this initiative, SMEs have produced the uniforms and furniture to be used during the sports event and at the sport villages.

Likewise, the top official underlined an association among companies will enable them to take big challenges that would not be possible for merely one enterprise.

Furthermore, he noted the quality of the services provided by the SMEs and the products made for the Pan Am Games 2019, adding this experience must be taken advantage of, in order to attend to the needs of the State, ministries, and diverse public entities.

President Vizcarra indicated the Purchase Execution Unit (NEC) has received over S/22 million (US$6 million) so Peruvian companies can produce all the garments, including uniforms for the people who will participate in the sports event, as well as the equipment for the apartments where the athletes will stay during the games.
