Peru participated in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum's Third Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM3) in Dalian, People's Republic of China, from August 17 to 28.
The delegation, headed by Peru's Senior Official to APEC, Marco Balarezo, stressed the importance of maintaining active participation to achieve concrete results.
During the main SOM3 sessions, Balarezo expressed Peru's national interest in continuing to foster the implementation of the Lima Roadmap for Promoting the Transition to Formal and Global Economies (2025-2040).
Moreover, Balarezo highlighted the prioritization of initiatives aimed at managing emergencies and disasters related to the El Nino phenomenon, as well as consolidating the implementation of the APEC 2026-2030 Roadmap to curb the impact of dengue, adopted in 2025 at Peru's initiative.
Likewise, the Peruvian delegation took part in discussions on the review of the Aotearoa Plan of Action (APA), the Steering Committee on Economic and Technical Cooperation (SCE), the Budget and Management Committee, and dialogues on connectivity, digital economy, and artificial intelligence.
In this regard, it was highlighted that Peru received the largest number of SCE cooperation projects between 2024 and March 2026 (37 in total) to strengthen capacities and exchange experiences.
The Peruvian delegation also reported on domestic actions taken to comply with the Arequipa Goals on disability and the Aotearoa Plan of Action, the framework document for the forum's current agenda, which seeks to implement the Putrajaya Vision 2040.
Likewise, the progressive incorporation of the Lima Roadmap and other national deliverables into the strategic plans of the various working groups was verified.
The SOM3 agenda included meetings of the APEC Study Centers Consortium and specialized groups on anti-corruption and transparency, emergencies and disasters, transportation, oceans and fisheries, food security, science and technology, plus health.
Additionally, the event helped advance preparations for the declarations and deliverables ahead of the upcoming ministerial meetings and the APEC 2026 Economic Leaders' Week.
