Former President Martin Vizcarra (2018-2020), who has been recently banned from holding public office for 10 years by Peruvian Congress, has affirmed that he will defend his case before all possible authorities in order to reverse the decision, which he deemed as "illegal and unconstitutional."

In this sense, Vizcarra indicated that Parliament has lost all legitimacy and is attempting to eliminate its political enemies through voting.

"This has not ended, we will defend ourselves before all authorities until we reverse this illegal and unconstitutional decision," he wrote on Twitter.

Likewise, the ex-president informed that he has submitted a legal protection appeal to the Judiciary and a measure to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.

Under this assumption, the former Head of State hopes that Congress' decision will be reversed.

Furthermore, Vizcarra's attorney, Fernando Ugaz, questioned Parliament's decision mentioning that he and his client were not allowed to exercise the right to defense and that the legislators in charge of this case had made their decision in advance.

On Friday, Parliament approved the disqualification against Vizcarra with 86 votes in favor, zero against, and none abstentions.

Vizcarra expressed that Parliament was committing an abuse of power, since its members continued the session without allowing him to exercise his right to defense.

"Congress is not above the laws and the Constitution," he stressed.

He ran for a seat in Congress in last week's general elections and became the most voted Somos Peru party candidate for Parliament.
